OTN wata hanyar sadarwa ce ta sufuri wadda ta dogara ne akan fasahar rarraba raƙuman raƙuman ruwa wadda ke tsara hanyar sadarwa a matakin gani, kuma ita ce babbar hanyar sadarwa ta jigilar kayayyaki ta tsararraki masu zuwa. OTN ta ƙunshi yankin lantarki na gargajiya (watsawa ta dijital) da yankin gani (watsawa ta analog), kuma mizani ne na haɗin kai don sarrafa yankunan lantarki da na gani.
Babban manufar Sarrafa OTNkasuwanci ne mai matakin tsayin tsayi, wanda ke tura hanyar sadarwa ta sufuri zuwa matakin hanyar sadarwa ta gani mai tsawon tsayi da yawa. Manufar OTN ta ƙunshi layin gani da hanyar sadarwa ta layin lantarki, kuma fasaharta ta gaji fa'idodi biyu na SDH da WDM. Manyan fasalulluka na fasaha sune kamar haka:
1.
